Revenova TMS integrates BorderConnect for cross-border fleets

 In Press Release

Chicago, Ill. – In Revenova’s Fall ’24 release, the TMS provider adds a new BorderConnect integration for easy-to-submit paperwork for freight crossing the US-Canada border.

BorderConnect allows fleet managers to manage freight moving between the United States and Canada more easily by making driver credentials, profiles, and necessary paperwork just one click away.

“This new integration allows for e-manifest declarations to be submitted electronically,” Senior Product Manager Alyssa Norcross said. “There’s so much information that the government wants. It’s down to the truck level, to the trailer level, to the load level. We’re sending date of birth information, we’re sending travel credentials like licenses and passports. Having all that information within the TMS, and specifically Salesforce, is super helpful, because we have the infrastructure and the data model to support it.”

With so much sensitive information being stored inside the TMS, users should still feel confident in their privacy because of the investment Salesforce puts into security.

“Salesforce invests billions of dollars in research, development, and security,” Director of Product Management Dave Romanchuk said. “In fact, to test their security, Salesforce even invests in a hack-a-thon of sorts: software engineers who can identify security issues get paid for that identification, then Salesforce goes and gets it fixed.”

BorderConnect also touts its own robust technology foundation.

“At BorderConnect, we prioritize easy connectivity and seamless integration for our API customers,” Justin Knowlton, BorderConnect’s Marketing Manager, said. “Our eManifest API offers two straightforward options: a RESTful approach utilizing simple stateless HTTP requests for efficient message transmission, and a WebSockets option that enables a persistent, two-way connection for real-time communication. Additionally, we leverage JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) for data encoding, ensuring a simple and programming language-independent format that makes implementation effortless for developers. We’re committed to making compliance as smooth and accessible as possible.”

As Revenova continues to improve its Fleet Operations module , BorderConnect will play a crucial role for customers who operate their fleet in the two countries.

“We also met regularly with our customers that requested it, they’re the project matter experts,” Norcross added. “They use the integration in their legacy system, and they do this every day. We asked, ‘How does this workflow work? Where are you getting this specific field? Is this something that you input once and forget it, or is it something that you guys need to be able to update on an individual load basis?’ We made sure that we had those discussions so we could understand what the end user’s workflow was, so that when they’re actually building the manifest, it’s seamless and they have all the information right where they need it.”

Because government documents can get complicated, Norcross and the Revenova development team made sure the integration was foolproof.

“There’s a lot of different contingencies: if it’s a PAP shipment, or if it’s an in-bond shipment, then these 10 different things are required,” Norcross noted. “Instead of making the end user know that, we tried to make it super intuitive in the system. When you select certain fields, it will actually render so that you know what’s required.”

With BorderConnect’s streamlined service built into Revenova TMS, Revenova customers will be able to submit the documents quickly and easily.

“From submitting simple PAPS shipments to arriving and tracking U.S. In-Bond shipments, we’ve designed our eManifest API to simplify the complexities of cross-border shipping,” Knowlton added. “As a company, and with all of our software features, our goals are to minimize risk and enhance the overall user experience. With our eManifest API it’s no different, we’re committed to providing a seamless, efficient way for users to submit their ACE and ACI eManifest information—all from a single platform.”

“Our users don’t have to have multiple browsers up and checking multiple screens, which can create unfortunate misses or errors; plus it’s not as seamless,” Norcross said. “The main goal was to service our customers that do cross-border freight, but making sure that we’re keeping users within the TMS and just having all of the information they need right at their fingertips.”
